Dundas West vs Exhibition Place Alignment
Toronto has had an obsession with transit and the Bloor and Dundas West area going back to the very early 1900s. This 1910 plan shows the Yonge Street Subway and one of the early proposals for an East-West Subway. The Yonge Subway was built and opened in March 30, 1954; (over 44 years of debate, planning, and construction). The East-West Subway (which was envisioned to eventually be a belt line running along St. Clair at the north end), routed through what is now Dundas West Station, eventually became the Bloor-Danforth Subway built and opened on February 26, 1966; (over 56 years of debate, planning, and construction).
