Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE)

Apr. 15, 2017

"For those living north of the 407, the TYSSE will be very convenient if you live or work right at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, or if you already take public transit - The total number of new parking spaces is 2,900, but the TTC has already closed 610 parking spaces at Wilson Station - This will be great for the first 2,290 cars - For the rest of you planning to get to and from the TYSSE by car; forget it!"

"According to the TTC website at https://www.ttc.ca/Spadina/About_the_Project/FAQ.jsp there will be no TTC parking at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station - The nearest parking for you will be at the Highway 407 Station - The Station will have 563 spaces - It is very unlikely that you will be able to find parking there, as many cars will be coming via the 407 - Your best bet will be the Pioneer Village Station which will have 1,850 spaces - My point is that the subway should have been extended to at least Rutherford Road and a high-density parking facility located there, so that riders from north, east, and west of Vaughan don't have to fight Vaughan traffic to get a parking space when using the TYSSE"

"To encourage commuters to use the subway system, 2,900 parking spaces are planned for various stations - Commuter parking lots are planned at the Finch West station with 400 spaces, Pioneer Village station with 1,850 spaces, and Highway 407 station with 563 spaces - TTC will not have parking lots at Downsview Park Station, York University Station or Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station - Refer to the Spadina Subway Extension map to see the locations of the stations"

My issue with the TYSSE is not the extension itself, but the lack of parking and the fact that it does not go far enough - The extension should extend to at least Rutherford Road - Traffic in Vaughan is a mess in the area of the terminus at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station; there will be no dedicated parking for prospective riders at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station; and parking will be limited at the Highway 407 Station - The bulk of the parking will be at the Pioneer Village Station and prospective riders will have to fight their way through Vaughan traffic to get to and from parking for the new TYSSE
