"The city had perfectly good plans for getting vehicular traffic through the city; not just to and from the city, but through the city; it was a complete replacement of the Gardiner with a combination of boulevards, tunnels, and elevated roadways, that would have maintained the status quo (i.e., very little change in travel time east or westbound); but it would have gotten rid of the eye sore Gardiner Expressway - I have no idea why they never pursued this option"

"Yes; I noticed loose concrete above Lake Shore Boulevard several years ago and thought this is going to come down on someone, then it did; not sure why the city's inspectors didn't see it coming"
